Verb - To Occupy

Film

A reflection on different meanings on the verb “to occupy” and their relevance for our lives, personally, politically and creatively. Structured grammatically according to the logic of first, second and third person, it incrementally expands in scope, starting with the intimacy of the filmmaker’s own living space, moving on to the specific context of Haus Schwarzenberg as the location of the screening and then to occupation’s dual nature as both a tool of oppression and liberation depending on the context. Looking to the future tense, finally, we hear from Serbian students who are currently fighting systemic corruption and incessant landgrabbing, and how they imagine the future they are trying to build.

I Almost Called it Home

Film

Two voices emerge beyond time and space, corresponding through echoes and memories of lived experience, creating a living archive of Haus Schwarzenberg. Through fictionalized memory and the whispers of becoming, they unearth traces of encounter, wandering through the sounds of the projection room in Kino Central, mapping a topography of daily entanglements, forgotten gestures, and testimonies of a space someone once could almost call home.

Thorn:404

Film

What would happen if plants developed defense mechanisms in response to human actions? And what might these strategies look like? Thorn:404 imagines a speculative world where plants have learned to hack our screens and audio devices. With a touch of irony, the film poetically continues and questions the tradition of disaster fictions that portray plants rising against humans. Rooted in an on-site research around Kino Central in Berlin, the film stems from an investigation into the various plant species inhabiting the surrounding passages and urban spaces.

The Flying Museum

Speculative Guided Tour

Aiming to expand the meaning of the word museum — not only those we cultivate collectively, but also the museums we cultivate in our drawers, bags, memories, dreams, and on our walls — this speculative guided tour proposes an experience of visiting the birds and aliens of Haus Schwarzenberg. The idea of imagining museums as “flying” spaces in constant transformation is inspired by a campaign organized by ICOM (the International Council of Museums) and invites us to reflect on the volatility of words and of life itself, reminding us that everything we keep, even what we believe to be fixed, is always in motion and aerial.

Think of Me

Sound & Text

Think of Me is a sound artwork with text on screen by British artist Jeremy Knowles, exploring his relationship with Germany as a long-term resident yet non-citizen.

Using the decentralised online sound archive Radio Aporee, the piece navigates, sonically, the territories and borders of contemporary Germany, encountering field recordings from a multitude of sources that oscillate between the strange and familiar, the musical and natural. The sound composition is paired with bilingual text on screen (English and German), gradually revealing a dialogue between the artist and Germany itself, which speaks through the archive. Within this context, Kino Central becomes a landscape; a physical extension of the work’s sonic and textual layers, inviting the audience to connect their immediate surroundings with the soundscape and its reflections on national identity.

Taking place at a time of heightened national and global debate about immigration, Think of Me invites us to explore our conceptions of the nation-state and belonging, opening space for deconstruction, disconnection, and reimagining.
